Research and innovation activities grow at the Parc Científic despite economic crisis
15/05/2012The increase in employment at the Parc in Lleida in 2011 surpasses the average of parks in the country
The number of companies located in the Parc Científic increased in 2011 by 12.5% over 2010, despite the economic crisis. This increase exceeds the national average of employment in parks with 6% over the same period. The number of employees has also increased nearly 13% and investment in research has continued.
The president of the Parc, Roberto Fernández, accompanied by the vice-president, Àngel Ros, and scientific director, Santiago Planas, today made public the data included in the balance of scientific activity from 2008 to 2011. Fernández said that the link between research and innovation in the Parc “is a guarantee that the territory of Lleida is committed to modernity”. Meanwhile, Ros highlighted the creation of jobs for young people "due to the fact that the Parc is a centre of research and innovation."
The Parc is currently developing 22 research projects and is preparing the construction of four new scientific installations: the new ICT laboratory; the Food Technology Pilot Plant; the Magical Media audiovisual production centre and the Fruitcentre fruit technology centre. The University of Lleida, the German multinational GFT and IRTA are collaborating in building these new facilities.
